Retribution for "Order" Holy crap. After I read "Order of the Phoenix" I stopped the series for about 6 months. That book was dreadful and I wasn't even sure I wanted to keep reading. But I had to, I had come so far.With "Half-blood I read it in a week. I couldn't put it down! From the first freaking page this book was a million times better than the last one and at this point my favorite in the series.Even with having for knowledge because I'm super late to reading the series, I still enjoyed every twist and turn with this book and I'm assuming the movie will upset me like they all have but the book was still delicious.And I don't care what anyone says, I REFUSE to believe that Snape is redeemable. But I guess I'll just have to read "Deathly Hallows" to find out.The Books ARE ALWAYS BETTER! You will read them for years. The movies are wonderful BUT the Books Are ALWAYS Better! Why? You get the whole story as written by the original author!!! Nothing cut out or story lines Changed Entirely by editors or others who must squeeze and manipulate the ORIGINAL STORIES so as to fill a time slot, or showcase certain (undeserving) actors who wiggle their way into more “air time”...manipulating the original plot lines..It Shows to those of us who know. SO READ THE BOOKS, its like 50% more Harry Potter PLUS “THE REAL, UNDULTERATED, UNTOUCHED STORY. You should buy hard covered books because you WILL want to hand them down to your kids, grandkids, friends, and keep for yourself. These stories deserve re-reading! BUY THE BOOKS, you can get full sets! It is so very worth it and make great gifts for kids or fans of any age. GOOD LUCK, ENJOY!The same happened with my mother so I started buying them for her on in large print so she could easily read them without strain I got hooked on these books by accident around when the second movie came out. Great book! Book is bigger than I was expecting which is great! Plenty of room and I don't feel I have to squish my practice into tiny spaces. This is the third book I have purchased on the topic and my favorite thus far for the following reasons: (1) it's spiral bound as all hand lettering and calligraphy books should be. (2) The focus is on practicing strokes and lettering. I bought one book that seemed to rush me through that and the back half of the book was filled with projects. Which is great if you are experienced but if you are a beginner, you definitely need more practice before tackling a piece of artwork you intend to display. (3) Did I mention the size? There is so much room in this book to practice the myriad of alphabet styles presented.Great resource for beginners and veterans alike! Love the versatility of Pretty Simple Lettering! Whitney makes hand-lettering accessible to beginners, but also incorporates unique ways to sharpen a veterans skills. There are multiple alphabet tutorials on different styles of lettering which I find VERY useful for variated event styles (wedding vs. graduation vs. baby shower, etc). Other hand lettering guides I have come across have only included one, maybe two lettering styles with full alphabets attached. Worth every penny!Very user friendly I like the fact that she provides worksheets to practice the different styles. I really like the idea that she has a whole page describing the different brushes/pens you need to use for each style. As a former educator, I appreciate the fact that simply practicing the skill over and over will lead to some level of mastery. Am anxious to start this "practicing". I'm going out today to purchase the different writing tools. I'd like her to create a video to illustration the actual strokes.

Sadly, Gladwell places his foot in his mouth... Wow, does this book ever suffer from a severe case of foot-in-mouth disease!I almost didn’t make it past the introduction. In my pre-publication copy, Gladwell writes, “The Sandra Bland case came in the middle of a strange interlude in American public life” and then goes on to discuss a series of cases of police violence against black people that happened around 2014.“Strange interlude.” Really?That phrasing suggests that this treatment was some sort of aberration in American history and that the violence only happened during the few years he references. Did Gladwell really mean to ignore America’s long history of this problem?I don’t think so? I think he may have meant that the attention paid to police violence was unusual, but dude, choose your words much more carefully.Later on, there are some good points made about how and why we tend to misunderstand each other.But, again, I almost put the book down, this time while reading the chapter on the Brock Turner sexual assault case. Without going into detail, that chapter could only have been written by someone who's buried his head in the sand over the past five years or so.It’s tough to ignore the problematic elements of Talking to Strangers. I could definitely see the discussion of the causes of sexual assault offending some readers to the point that they abandon the book altogether. I’ve definitely enjoyed other books by the author a lot more than this one. Two stars.Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for giving me a DRC of this book.Better on Audible than on Kindle or Hardcover. It's odd to see some of the reviews. I waited until I actually finished the book before adding some thoughts here.If you are new to Gladwell, you will greatly enjoy "Talking to Strangers"... as it is a must read for anybody who needs to make snap judgements about people's character and behavior.Of course, if you are a fan of Gladwell, you will of course enjoy it, especially if you hear it on Audible. Gladwell produces the Audible version as if it was an extended episode of his "Revisionist History" Podcast. The music and all the extra interviews from actual people, really brings the book to life.Heck... if you don't like it, return it... though if you start, you will probably keep it.Enjoy!"We think we can easily see into the hearts of others based on the flimsiest of clues." Malcolm Gladwell is a gifted writer who engages our minds and emotions in his works of non-fiction. In "Talking to Strangers,” he tells us true stories that, at first, seem to be unrelated. A police stop ends in tragedy; Neville Chamberlain and other political figures famously misconstrued Hitler's bellicose intentions; experienced judges grant bail to defendants who, they realize too late, should have remained in jail; the sociopath, Bernie Madoff, conducted a fraudulent investment scheme for years, deceiving many individuals who thought that he was a genius at making money; Amanda Knox served prison time for a murder that she did not commit.Studies show that most of us who encounter apparently benevolent individuals are predisposed to believe that they are not putting on an act. Conversely, when we meet a man or woman who behaves weirdly or inappropriately, we are likely to jump to negative conclusions about him or her, even when there is little hard evidence to support our assumptions. The author suggests that many of us have an inflated opinion of our ability to size up people. Research suggests that we are not as objective as we would like to believe, and are therefore prone to misinterpret comments, intonations, facial expressions, and gestures. Moreover, we do not always realize that people whose backgrounds differ from ours may communicate in unfamiliar ways.Gladwell asks: How did double-agents who telegraphed their guilt get away with their treasonous behavior for so long? Why didn't everyone recognize Madoff for what he is—a ruthless swindler? Which of Amanda Knox's personality traits, remarks, and deeds convinced Italian authorities that she killed her roommate? These compelling examples raise intriguing questions about why we sometimes reach erroneous conclusions when we assess the truthfulness of our fellow human beings. it should be noted that a few chapters in this book—such as the essays on suicide, young adults who drink so heavily that they black out, and the efforts of police to cut down on crime—are thought-provoking but oversimplified and not particularly relevant to Gladwell's central premise. Still, this work of non-fiction is an entertaining and enlightening wake-up call. We should be cautious when we decide who our friends are as opposed to who is likely to stab us in the back. Too often we are dead wrong.

The part of these that makes them cute is things like "I love our ____" and a ridiculous blank. Saying things like "date nights" will get repetitive after a while. Instead say something personal like "house-hunter marathons" or "shared dates with stomach flu". Something stupid is so much cuter than the typical stuff.

Prince Some pictures of Prince are nice but many are grainy / blurry / dark. It's an okay book. The book was damaged when it was being put in the box for shipping. It wasn't put in bubble wrap either and it should have been. Debating on whether to keep it.Exceeded Expectations! Wow! Absolutely gorgeous hard cover book filled with amazing pictures!
