Title: The Plant Paradox Cookbook Pdf 100 Delicious Recipes to Help You Lose Weight, Heal Your Gut, and Live Lectin-Free
Author: Dr. Steven R. Gundry, M.D.
Published Date: 2018-04-10
Page: 288

Lose weight and heal your gut with more than 100 delicious Plant Paradox–approved recipes! In the New York Times bestseller The Plant Paradox, renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry introduced readers around the world to the hidden toxins lurking in seemingly “healthy” foods: a class of plant-based proteins known as lectins. Found in nightshade plants like tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as in grains, legumes, and conventional dairy, lectins attack the lining of our gut and disrupt the balance of our microbiome, leading to leaky gut syndrome and widespread inflammation, weight gain, and illness. Now, in The Plant Paradox Cookbook, Dr. Gundry gives fans of The Plant Paradox what they’ve been asking for: more recipes! In this easy-to-follow cookbook, Dr. Gundry shows readers how simple and delicious it is to live lectin-free (or at least lectin-reduced). In addition to an overview of the Plant Paradox program, a pantry guide, and sample meal plans, Dr. Gundry shares more than one hundred recipes designed to help heal the gut, promote weight loss, and quell inflammation. He also includes simple kitchen hacks—like peeling and seeding vegetables, and pressure cooking grains and legumes—that reduce or eliminate lectin content, making many favorite foods safe to consume. With dishes that cover every meal of the day, including Pesto-Baked Eggs; Lemon, Kale, and Chicken Soup; Spinach Artichoke Lasagna; and Truffled Mushroom Mac and Cheese, and decadent desserts such as Chocolate Mint Cookies, Pistachio Ice Cream, and Olive Oil Rosemary Cake, Dr. Gundry makes it easy for everyone to clean up their diets and live lectin-free.Steven R. Gundry, MD, FACS, FACC, is the director of the International Heart and Lung Institute in Palm Springs, California, and the founder/director of The Center for Restorative Medicine in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara.

From renowned cardiac surgeon and acclaimed author Dr. Steven R. Gundry, the companion cookbook to New York Times bestselling The Plant Paradox, offering 100 easy-to-follow recipes and four-color photos.

In the New York Times bestseller The Plant Paradox, Dr. Steven Gundry introduced readers to the hidden toxins lurking in seemingly healthy foods like tomatoes, zucchini, quinoa, and brown rice: a class of plant-based proteins called lectins. Many people are familiar with one of the most predominant lectins—a substance called gluten, which is found in wheat and other grains. But while cutting out the bread and going gluten-free is relatively straightforward, going lectin-free is no small task.

Now, in The Plant Paradox Cookbook, Dr. Gundry breaks down lectin-free eating step by step and shares one hundred of his favorite healthy recipes. Dr. Gundry will offer an overview of his Plant Paradox program and show readers how to overhaul their pantries and shopping lists to make delicious, simple, seasonal, lectin-free meals. He’ll also share his hacks for making high-lectin foods safe to eat, including methods like pressure-cooking grains and peeling and deseeding tomatoes.

With a quick-start program designed to boost weight loss and recipes for smoothies, breakfasts, main meals, snacks, and desserts, The Plant Paradox Cookbook will show readers of The Plant Paradox—and more—how delicious it can be to eat lectin-free.

I love this book I love this book. Dr Gundry has solved a huge problem for a lot of people who are with Auto Immune disorders and weight issues. Do you have to change what you eat? YES. do your want to be well? Then read it and make the change. I am.I am a Health Care Professional and believe me this man has brought a wealth of knowledge to solve a huge problem the Medical Community is oblivious to.Just what I needed Just what I needed. I have lost 30 pounds by following the Plant Paradox program. Also, my inflammation has just about disappeared. My digestion is so improved that I no longer have a feeling of being "overfull." The recipes in this cookbook contain a lot of variety and appeal.Highly Recommended Well, I am sincerely happy with the book. That’s why I wanted to share this review with you. The book is divided in two parts: the first covers the Plant Paradox Program in detail, whereas the second brings easy-to-prepare recipes divided in categories. The first part of the book is where we learn the details about the program: the background and effects of lectins in our bodies, the common disrupters we may not be aware of, as well as a detailed explanation on how we should approach the program to bring back our innate happy and healthy life. Please, the first part of this book can either be a refresher of the main book if you have already read that, or it can be the only book to read if you haven’t read that yet. That is, don't bother and get this one instead. You will find ordered and well-explained information covering pretty much all aspects of the program proposed, including the list of desirable food choices as well as the list of those we want to avoid in order to keep low inflammation. I say that because I ended up reading the main book twice and is still fresh in order to compare them both. The second part of the book is quite delightful. Now, as I edit this review written previously, I wanted to add that I have prepared around 10 of the dishes in the book. First one was the "Cream of Mushroom Soup", and sincerely enjoyed the result. Then tried the delicious "Brazilian Cheezy Bread" which is a yummy snack together with a cup of tea/coffee. From the main dishes I have tried a handful and cannot say which one has been my favorite so far. My family loves the "Halibut with Mushrooms" and I personally enjoy cooking the "Spinach Artichoke Lasagna".As a side note, most recipes seem to be straightforward, and the ingredient list idem. Also, it's important to note that the recipes will please both vegans and omnivorous.Even though I am fortunate to be in good health that let me spend time outdoors to go on adventures and move freely, I sincerely believe this lifestyle proposed by Gundry can be a healing approach to foster better health even if we don't have any health issue. At first his viewpoints can be daunting, but it makes completely sense once we understand the "whys" behind it, as well as after complying with the program for only 2–3 weeks. I felt more vibrant upon starting his approach, my skin felt healthier after 2 weeks, my digestive system seems to work even smoother, and I feel lighter. Deep inside we all can find ways to create a more positive, meaningful and healthier lifestyle, nurturing from inside out. Nutrition, after all, is one of the foundation aspects. Besides Gundry's approach, I do enjoy Mercola's "Fat for Fuel" book and Longo's "The Longevity Diet" book. After all they are complementary and based on recent health studies/research.Lastly, one of the ultimate readings, which I have just finished and has already influenced my thoughts deeply, is a book called "No Recipe: Cooking as Spiritual Practice" from Edward Brown. Combining the Plant Paradox Program principles together with inspiring reflections from Brown can definitely influence our perceptions around nurturing our bodies and souls.Take good care,Haical

Sisters – August 26, 2014

Sisters Hardcover – August 26, 2014
Author: Visit ‘s Raina Telgemeier Page ID: 0545540593

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Telgemeier’s follow-up to Smile (2010)—possibly the only universally embraced graphic novel on the planet—offers the same thoughtful perspective while also creating a slightly more mature and complex tone. Raina boards the family minivan traveling from California to Colorado to visit relatives, sharing a charged and eventful trip with her mother, sister, and younger brother. Cleverly, the trip is interspersed with flashbacks that flesh out the emotional background and neatly dovetail with Smile. While the focus of the story explores Raina’s combative relationship with her younger sister, Amara, it is in some sense about families themselves, the tensions they breed, the unspoken worries that swirl through households, and the ways an older generation’s unintended example echoes through younger generations. This may sound dark and heavy, but it actually exists only as an underlying reality. Telgemeier keeps the surface story popping and zippy, even through the constant sparring between the awkwardly adolescent Raina and her firecracker younger sister, a relationship that will prove profoundly familiar to many readers. Telgemeier’s art complements her writing to great effect, offering a cheerful, vivid cartoon simplicity that allows readers to instantly engage even as it leaves room for deeper truths to take hold. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: New York Times best-selling Smile continues to be one of the most widely loved kid’s graphic novels in recent history. With a sizable first print run, Telgemeier’s publisher is counting on a repeat performance. Grades 5-8. –Jesse Karp

I love how this book went well with "Smile". Raina is one of my favorite writers. I would recommend and Raina’s other book "Drama". I hope Raina writes more books for the series!

Sisters by Raina Telgemeier

Summary (208 pages): In this follow-up to her highly acclaimed graphic novel Smile, Raina Telgemeier tells the story of her relationship with her younger sister, Amara. The main story is of a road trip 13-year-old Raina takes from California to Colorado with her mother, Amara, and their younger brother. In flashbacks, we see a much younger Raina wishing for a sister, then experiencing disappointment with the reality of a baby, then a toddler. There are other difficult family situations for Raina to deal with, including her father’s extended job loss and her parents’ possible separation, but in the end, the family ties remain strong.

Pros: Raina Telgemeier is probably my favorite graphic novelist. Her artwork is just right for elementary kids, and the stories are engaging and positive. This would be a good book to give a reluctant girl reader.

Cons: This didn’t have quite the upbeat ending I enjoyed in Smile. It is a graphic novel, so it will be a quick read for many kids.

I really enjoyed "Smile" and "Drama" and figured I should finish out the three books and just read "Sisters" now rather than holding off.

In this installment Raina remembers when her sister was born and how they came to be less than the fights and more of family. They also deal with an awkward cross-state trip where they learn their parents are having marital problems.

Personally I felt this book didn’t really hold up to "Smile"’s success. I found myself skimming some of the passages simply because they weren’t nearly as interesting. Instead of it containing some relatable stories surrounding a middle schooler growing up, it was more like one long anecdote on the relationship of sisters.

While I could respect what the author was conveying, I really struggled with interest throughout the entire thing. There was no resolution to the story with the parents (understandable but still). Also the story didn’t really have a plot other than a general snapshot of family. It bothered me a bit and I found myself flipping forward to see if anything interesting actually happened.

Frankly I’d recommend it for huge fans of "Smile" and Raina Telgemeier but otherwise I’d skip it.

I have been looking some time now for a book for my son that tells him about having a new baby. I really like how this book tells what all a new baby can’t do yet (ex. new babies can’t talk, walk, play with toys yet, and can’t eat pizza or ice cream). Then the book goes on to tell what babies can do (ex. Babies like to drink milk, stay warm and cozy, and best of all the baby loves to look at me because I’m the big brother!). The book makes the brother of the baby feel special because the book explains to them that they are a big boy and a new brother. It lets them know that they can help mommy and daddy with the baby! My son is only 2 1/2 but loves this book more than I thought he would. He now talks about can’t waiting for his new baby to get here. Now He tells everyone that he is a big brother, my little guy is just so proud of this! This is a very well writen book, easy to understand even for a 2 year old. As a new mom to be I also love this book, it helps explain things that I wasn’t sure how to.

After reading about 8 big brother/big sister books, this is one of my top three favorites. The mood of the book is very positive, unlike many others on the subject. Our son enjoys it very much.

This updated version, illustrated by Rosalinda Kightley, is better than the original. The original never showed the mother holding the baby whereas the new version does, a couple of times. Neither version shows breastfeeding but the new version cuts back on the bottle feeding at least. My son loves this book and we have tried many. He is 28 months old and most books are too old for him or too detailed to capture his attention. We first borrowed this book from the library, along with all of the others we’ve tried, and had to buy it after renewing it 3 times. I also like the fact that the book does not address negative feelings the older sibling may have. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it; why give him any ideas? Another great choice on this subject is On Mother’s Lap by Ann Herbert Scott. My son also loves the Sesame Street video Three Bears and a New Baby. If you are looking for a parenting book for yourself on this subject, try Welcoming Your Second Baby, by Vicky Lansky or Keys to Preparing and Caring for Your Second Child, by Meg Zweiback. Avoid the book From One Child to Two, by Judy Dunn. Dunn’s book was so indecisive and negative, we might not be having another child after reading it if I hadn’t already been pregnant.

What Does It Mean To Be Present? Kindle Edition

What Does It Mean To Be Present? (What Does It Mean…?) Kindle Edition

The message might be aimed at children, but I’ve given this book to adults and for different reasons. Anyone can use the message to focus on what’s happening right now, and to get in tune with nature. We’re all too hurried and bound by the demands of technology and the modern world. But the book also has an especially important message for people who are ill, or perhaps at the ends of their lives. Enjoy the moment. Be present. That’s all any of us really has, right? I’ve given the book to adults in just this situation, and it resonates deeply with them.

We all need to be reminded to live each moment to it’s fullest, and engage yourself in the present. This book has a message for everyone. The beautiful and playful illustrations draw you closer to the theme. Lovely.

Rana DiOrio’s award winning book, "What Does It Mean To Be Present" is truly a gift. The book is beautifully written and illustrated, and its subject matter is timeless, despite the fact that being "present" at first seems like a sort of "new-agey" concept. As DiOrio’s book explains, being present is simply living life to the fullest, being present and aware of all that we do, all the time. This is important in today’s world, in which people (big and small, young or old) always seem to be looking ahead to whatever is coming next, rather than savoring the moment they are currently in. As with all the books in this series, the information is presented is a gentle, encouraging way that truly influences children for the better. If you have a gift giving occasion coming up, I highly recommend that you make a present of "Present"!
